The beach strawberry is a very drought tolerant plant from South America.

Beach strawberries are hardy and evergreen, low growing with dark glossy leaves and large flowers April-May, followed by firm, pink or red fruits of a good size in June-July. They produce masses of runners which will cover ground very quickly if you want them to, seeking out the sunnier spots.

A parent of our modern hybrids as it has larger than usual berries for a wild species which are delicious.
