A European native it is similar to the Beach strawb but with larger leaves, a more vigorous habit though equally shy to fruit. A very determined plant that will cover any ground anywhere, it is handsome and evergreen with dark, shiny leaves and masses of white flowers in the spring.
Although tricky, hunting for the berries under the leaves throughout July it's well worth the effort as they are a translucent orange, extremely sweet and juicy and larger than most wild strawberries.
