Wild pears
are true native trees, though sadly not as common as they once were.
This is the wild version of our widely grown pear trees, origins unknown but once a familiar sight in European and British woodlands.
Usually a small to medium sized straight tree, wild pears
can on occasions reach 20 m in time. The glossy bright leaves go golden yellow in the autumn, no special requirements, but the profuse white blossom in April/May will benefit from a sheltered sunny spot and will help pollinate any cultivated pears nearby.
Fruits can be variable, but always edible, sweet and usually roundish, up to 10 cm long ripening greeny-yellow.
