Also known in parts of Europe as oepri perlzwiebel, perennial leeks are easily grown in a sunny well drained spot

Perennial leeks are never going to impress with their size, being as they are very closely related to wild leeks growing around the coasts of Europe and Asian...nonetheless, they are a very useful addition to the veg patch. In some ways they are like a large leek version of chives, forming clumps of leaves as new small bulbs are formed around the base, they stay green for a large part of the year too but die back mid-summer, when you can dig them up to divide the clumps before they reappear in the autumn.

All this leafy growth is great for adding to salads, especially through the autumn and winter when growth is strong, or take whole leeks for stir fries or adding to casseroles etc.
