Popular as pickles, Rakkyo is widely used throughout Asia and easy to grow.

Also known as kiangsi or Chinese scallions, rakkyo is a very easy going plants and perfect for containers if you do not have much room.

The little plants may appear delicate but are hardy and drought tolerant, they prefer well drained soils with plenty of gritty sand added but will grow pretty much anywhere so long as there is plenty of sunshine.

Neat and decorative, they can be used in the same way as chives for their edible leaves and flowers, and why not have a go at making your own sweet rakkyo pickles for your next sushi evening!
