If you want something unusual in your rockery or hanging basket try the trailing fuchsia!

Although we have been growing this lovely little plant in our polytunnel for a few years now, the trailing fuchsia is tougher than it looks. It has survived some sever frosts with us in recent years, loosing it's leaves but bouncing back as lovely as ever in the spring once things warm up. Thriving in warm moist conditions, it does best in a little shade, creeping around under our fruiting shrubs but it should be just as happy in a shady hanging basket and definitely worth a try in a sheltered garden, patio or rockery wherever it can creep around in the shade.

In spite of it's larger than expected fruits, which are red (but not as exciting as they look), it is known more for the bright blue pollen apparently once used by the Maori for cosmetic purposes...
